How to Share Game Bonuses with Specific Friends on Facebook

I’ll admit it.  I play Farmville on Facebook.

Sometimes you want to share a certain gift or bonus with one person and prevent the rest of your friends from seeing that particular bonus.  An easy way to do this is to utilize the built in features of Facebook.  In fact, this feature also allows you to share wall posts with specific friends while keeping it from the view of others.  You could post a message to facebook that says “Everyone remember to tell Dan Happy Birthday at work tomorrow, then simply exclude Dan in the privacy settings for that post, and he’ll be none the wiser.  Whether you are creating a wall post from an application like a Zynga game or just creating a wall post with some text or posting a link from the internet, anytime you publish to facebook you have the options to customize who can see that post.

So let’s get started, the window below is pretty standard.  It will pop up when you are going to share a post with your friends on your wall.

001

First When you see this box asking you if you want to post to your wall, you select the small padlock next to the Publish key.

002

Once have clicked on the padlock, I menu will slide out, as you can see, the default is “friends of friends” you will click on the “Customize” option.

This will result in a new window opening.

003

You will click the down facing triangle in the drop down menu for “These people:” and highlight and click on “Specific People”

004

Once you select specific people this will allow you to type in the name of individuals or groups from your friends list who will be able to see the post once you publish.  As you type the names, Facebook will auto complete the selection.  once you’ve selected a name by hitting enter you can begin typing the name of another person or friends group.

005

You can also select people or lists of people that you want this post hidden from.  In this example I used the same example, more than likely when you utilize the “hide” function, you would leave “these people” set to “friends” and simply enter into this line the names of friends you want to hide your post from.

006

Once you’ve clicked on “Save Settings” you will then see this window.  If you now mouse over the padlock you will see that it now displays the name or names of the people who or distribution list that you will allow to view the post.

007

On your wall, this is what the post will look like. Notice that if you mouse over the padlock here you also see the name of the people that will be able to see the post.

It is very useful to create friend lists in Facebook.  If you are not familiar with what they are or how to create them Facebook has a great article in their help section describing the process.  You can find that page by clicking here.

I hope you find this useful.

Regards,
